As we commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Battle of the Somme, which started on 1st July 1916, let us remember two Ebrington Soldiers whose names are recorded on the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Battle.

We remember Sergeant John Yeatman, 1st Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment; born 1883 in Ebrington, a Reservist, Married, who re-enlisted.

Killed by shell-fire, 22nd August 1916 near High Wood, France, Age 43.

 We remember Private William Henry Bayliss, 14th Battalion Royal Warwickshire Regiment; born 1894 in Mickleton, Married Emily Lumley in 1915.

Reported Missing, subsequently confirmed killed, 3rd September 1916, Age 22.
